Who organises our tours + English lessons?

Laura McKinlay enjoys travel, Scotland and teaching English. She studied Languages and Tourism Management at Napier University in Edinburgh and for many years she has worked in her family’s English language school in Edinburgh.

Noticing that many of the clients who came to the school to study English also wanted more time to visit Edinburgh and the surrounding area, Laura decided to combine the two. Touring courses are an alternative to traditional classroom based English courses. They give you the opportunity to improve your English and see some alluring areas of Scotland at the same time.

What we do

  • Our tours aim to offer you an engaging holiday in Scotland whilst improving your English at the same time. You don’t have to choose between an English course or a holiday, you can do both! Each touring course will provide you with quality English language tuition together with interesting tourism and cultural visits.

  • Each touring course is held in a small group of 2 - 6 clients and is accompanied by two native English speakers; a qualified and experienced English language teacher, and an equally experienced specialist guide. Your English teacher and tour guide will work together to provide interesting and educational visits. This means that throughout the day you will have the opportunity to talk to two native English speakers in a natural way and improve your English on the move.

  • You will be based in Edinburgh and take part in a series of day trips to locations of interest in central Scotland, the Borders, Fife, Perthshire and East Lothian regions. Private tours to the Highlands can be arranged on request.

English language tuition

English language tuition will be provided in association with ECS Scotland, a well established and accredited English language training centre in Edinburgh. You will be accompanied by one of ECS Scotland’s fully qualified and experienced English language teachers who will be in charge of your English tuition.

Each day you will be provided with specific vocabulary and language notes about the visits and throughout the day you will have mini language improvement sessions. Depending on the chosen tour, you will have a mix of classroom sessions at ECS Scotland’s English language school in Edinburgh city centre and tuition sessions on location.

Guided tours

We partner with a number of professional and experienced local guides. Depending on your chosen touring course, we will select the most suitable guides for the group and topics of interest. Touring courses often use the expertise of several different guides who are specialised in specific topics.

Guides are responsible for providing you with accurate and interesting information about Scotland and the places we visit. These are some of the organisations we work in association with: Iconic Tours, Edinburgh Food Safari, Tasting Scotland, Serenity Scotland, A Walk in Edinburgh
